BerlinKnits 2015

yarnhaul

This is what you get for 90 euros on a Yarnfestival. A friend of mine commented that this looks well restrained. Haha, she only saw the picture and didn’t know the budget then.

Well, last weekend – 16th/17th May 2015 – the very first BerlinKnits Yarnfestival took place in Berlin. A Yarnfestival with yarn, fibre, bags, workshops, knitting celebrities and so on. Long ahead my sister, my mom and I had planned this as our girls weekend for this year – last year we had this wonderful weekend with the doll making class with Maria from Mariengold. By the way the festival was organised by the girls of Yarn over Berlin.

What should I say: It was great! The whole thing took place in an old HO supermarket in Berlin, right next to the Alex. The building wasn’t that big – the workshps took place in a school nearby – and was oozing with the charme of an old GDR building. Especially those light blue tiles in the restrooms. Made me feel like being in the old gym back in school. So it didn’t take long to go past all the boothes if you didn’t stop and everyone of them to buy something. Which I didn’t. My budget was 70 euros+ 20 euros from my dear bf – so 90 euros.

Aber zu den details:/ As for the details:

zauberwieseblog1

Den Anfang macht dieses Garn.

Glitter Yarn von Zauberwiese.

Ein stärker verzwirntes Garn aus 75% Merino, 20% Nylon und 5%Glitzer/Metallic, Lauflänge 400m/100g.

zauberwieseblog2Es glitzert halt.

I started with this yarn. Glitter Yarn by Zauberwiese.

A high twist yarn made of 75% merino, 20% nylon and 5%metallic/sparkles and a yargade of 400m(437yd)/100g.

Well, it has sparkles in it. And i have two skeins of the tuquoise – mountain spring – and one in a wonderful gray colour which has the fittin name “glittery stone”/”sparkly stone”. (That’s jus a rough translation of the German word…)

The sparkles aren’t as predominant as in other yarns – which is totally fine for me. I will either make a cardigan out of those three – with short sleeves – or a t-shirt. Depending on much yarn I will us the sleeves will grow longer maybe. 😉

Oh and it’s vers soft and not itchy at all. And it could still count as sock yarn.

Einfach so.

Mal sehen, was daraus wird.

Kostenpunkt: 20€

Next, my very first skein of madelintosh yarn ever.

After going passing all the shops three times my dear sister still ahd nit decided on a green yarn that would be fitting for her Heaven and Space. I suggested that she should just take a look around then and see if she saw something she just liked and wanted to have. Without thinking of a project – yes, I know “just to have it” is a dangerous reason for a knitter…

Well, we got stuck at the Yarn over Berlin booth then where they had madelintosh – and lots of other lovely yarns but you know, my budget… So I also decided to buy one of the skeins. Just to have it, to pet it and someday to be able to say, “Madelintosh? Well, sure I’ve knitted with that.”

So this is tosh merino light.

It’s 100% merino and a so called singleply – which means there’s only one ply and not more plies twisted together. It get’s a bit of a halo effect from that. The colour is called Fragrand, a mixture or pink, red and even orange. Yardage is about 384m(420yd)

We’ll see what I will do with this. 🙂 Probably a shawl. Oh, and it’s super soft and the colours are very interesting since they are not screaming at you.

Price: 20€

My last yanry purchase was this yarn then:

100% Merino extrafine by  PondeRosa-Wolle.

As the name suggests just plain merino with a yardage of 310m(339yd)/100g. Colour is called rosebud and i got two skeins of it. That’s enough for a bigger shawl.

PondeRosa also has another great colourway called Crazy Horse but they didn’t have it there that weekend.

From what I had left – okay not completely – I bought this bag made by strickimicki. The pun only works in German I’m afraid. Basically it say “Run, stitch!” and it refers to what we call a Laufmasche – a run in English? The ones you get when you drop a stitch or have a hole in your tights or any knitwear and it just keeps running and running until the cast on.

What made the weekend so great was not just the yarn.

We had fun a s girls and met lots of nice people.

Vicky from Baerenwolle for example who I just recognised by her spindle. Just a few weeks ago she had opened her shop and sells handdyed yarn there. In beautiful colours! I already ordered from there and proudly showed her my Samadhi in the making  – knit in her yarn!

Michaela from Wollfaktor saw me  – I was surprised that she remembered how I looked – and later came by to say hi and to chat a bit! Great! ^^ A few different other people who knew her also joined us over the afternoon then. My mom was stunned that all those poeple just came by.

Lisa aka frogginette who lives here in Greifswald and is part of my knitting group here. Also Claudia from the knitting group.

Well, and we took a selfie with Stephen West of Westknits. 😉
