wip Wednesday – Pink Sugar and Red Arrows

Viel hat sich nicht getan bei den wips, da ich momentan versuche ein paar Sachen zu beenden, bevor ich etwas neues anfange. Ich hatte zwischendurch wohl gut 7 Projekte auf den Nadeln und kam langsam in “Seilnot” – hatte also nicht mehr genug Nadelseile in den richtigen Längen frei für bestimmte Sachen.

My wips haven’t changed much for some time now since I try to finish things before starting new projects at the moment. At one point I must have had 7 projects or so on the needles and did no longer have enough cables for the interchangeables’ circular needles – at least not in the right lenghted for certain things.

Zunächst habe ich immer noch den Satsuma Stripes (Pink sugar) auf den Nadeln. Zwischendurch war der schonmal bis kurz unter der Burst fertig, aber… viel. zu.groß. Also viel zu weit. Um den Oberkörper hätte ich locker 15cm Umfang zuviel. Außerdem waren die Schultern zu weit. Also habe ich ALLES nochmal aufgetrullert. *schnief* Insgesamt hatte ich schon 3 Knäuel Wolle verstrickt. In Streifen und ich habe – und mach es immer noch – den Faden der Farbe, die ich nicht benutze, einfach am Rücken mitgenommen. Dazu schlinge ich die gerade nicht verwendete Wolle einmal um meinen Arbeitsfaden. Dann ist er ein wenig fixiert.

Entsprechend mühsam war übrigens das Auftrullern…

So, jetzt stricke ich an Größe M. Die Größe, welche mir hätte perfekt passen sollen, war ja zu groß. Spannenderweise stimmt meine MaPro – in Maschen und Runden – und auch die Maße meines Strickstücks waren exakt wie in der schematischen Zeichnung. Es passte mir eben nur einfach nicht. Ich habe also gelernt: die Schulterweite mit messen, denn da war es auch zu weit. Negative Ease mit einrechnen und mich nicht überschätzen. XL war vielleicht doch ein bisschen zu übertrieben für mich – obwohl mein Brustumfang genau da sein würde, der Rest nur halt nicht.

First I still habe Satsuma Stripes (Pink Sugar) on my needles. I already had worked the body until short under my bust but… way. too. big. Well, too wide to be precise. Around my bust I could leave about 15cm (about 6 inches) and it would still fit. And the shoulders also felt too wide. So I frogged ALL of it. *sniff* I had worked in about 3 skeins already. In stripe pattern and I did – and still do – carry the yarn of the other colour with me at the beginning of the round at the back. For this I wrap the not working yarn around the working yarn at the beginning of wach round.

You can imagine that frogging it got a bit complicated due to this.

So now I’m doing size M. The size which should have fitted me perfectly was as I said way too big. Interestingly my gauge is perfect – stitches and rounds – and also the measurements of the fabric was exactly as they should have been in the schematics. It just didn’t fit. So I’ve learned: my should width is also important since it was too wide there too. Negative ease is not just a nice term and I shouldn’t overestimate my own size. XL is not my size here – although my bust size would suggest XL.

Als zweites arbeite ich gerade – ACHTUNG SPOILER – noch an einem Follow Your Arrow 2 – letztes Jahr gab es das schonmal. Ein MKAL, wobei in jedem Schritt des Musters immer 2 Möglichkeiten gegeben werden, die man stricken kann. Rechnerisch kann man so 32 verschiedene Tücher stricken. Jede Möglichkeit – A und B – kann an jedes A oder B vorher gestrickt werden.

Okay, ich war ein wenig skeptisch – mein letzter MKAL ist ja jetzt bei einer lieben Dame in den USA, weil ich ihn nicht tragen würde. Aber ich dachte mir, ich schau mir das mal an. Man kann sowas ja auch immer noch aufmachen.

Jetzt kommt, was einige vielleicht kurz schnappatmen lässt – außerdem könnte ich dafür den einen – und einzigen – Strang Wollmeise Pure nutzen. Da mich das Garn ja nun bisher nicht sooo begeistert hatte, wäre es kein allzu großer Verlust. Das klingt jetzt härter als es ist, aber ich kann den Hype halt nicht verstehen. Als ich den Strange aus der Packung nahm, war ich erschrocken, weil er winzig aussah. Das Garn ist extrem fest gezwirnt und sieht aus wie Baumwolle – fühlt sich leider auch so an. die Farbe ist natürlich toll, auch wenn Koralle meiner Meinung nach etwas heller sein könnte.

Problematisch ist auch, dass ich kein Garn habe, was in der Struktur dazu passt und also so oder so etwas einfarbiges stricken musste. Und: Laut Ysolda brauche ich für den FYA2 ca. 500-525m. Das ist ein Strange Wollmeise Pure. 😉 Wahrscheinlich wäre es sonst doch irgendwann noch ein Trillian geworden…

Zum FYA2: Ich habe 1B-2B-3B-4B-5A gewählt. Gegenwärtig habe ich wohl so 32g noch übrig, aber auch nur etwas mehr als die Hälfte der Maschen verbraucht. 5A ist der Rand, der seitwärts drangestrickt wird. Die Chancen stehen gut, dass ich noch 20g am Ende übrig habe. Sind dann zwar nur ca. 450m statt 500, aber nicht so schlimm. Und ich bin ganz gespannt, was passiert, wenn man den Schal spannt und die Meise wäscht. Soll schön weich werden. Mal gucken.

Bisher gefällt mir ganz gut, wie das Tuch aussieht. Die Chancen steht also nicht schlecht, dass ich es behalten werde. 🙂 Je nachdem, wie es sich nach dem Waschen macht.

 

My second wip to talk about – ATTENTION SPOILER ALERT – is a Follow Your Arrow 2 MKAL – there was one going on last year too. It’s a mystery shawl where with every of the 5 clues you get two options to choose from. It’s possible to knit 32 different shawls with this pattern. Every option – A and B – is compatible with every option A and B from the clue before.

Okay, I was a bit skeptic – my last MKAL ended up with a lady in the US since I wouldn’t wear it. But I thought I would give it a try. You can always frog it if you don’t like it.

Now I will say something that might shock some of you – I decided that I would use my one and only skein of Wollmeise Pure for this. Since the yarn didn’t impress me that much it wouldn’t be such a loss. That might sound harder than it should but I just don’t understand the fuzz about this yarn. When I took the skein ouf of the mail I was shocked since it looked so small – and it’s a 150g skein- the yarn is plied very tightly and looks like cotton – als feels lit it. The colour of course looks great although Coral could be a bit lighter if you asked me.

Problematic is also that I have no yarn that has the same or a similar structure to it. So a single coloured object would have been my only option. Plus: According to Ysolda I would need about 500-525m for the shawl. That’s exactly one skein of Wollmeise Pure. 😉 Otherwise it would have ended up as a Trillian…

For the FYA2: I chose 1B-2B-3B-4B-5A. At the moment I have about 32g left but have little less than halve of the stitches for the border – the border in 5A is knit on sideways. Chances are good that I will have left about 20g in the end. Well, that would be just 450m and not 500 but that’s not too bad. And I’m very excited about what happens when I wash it and block it. The Yarn is said to become very soft.

Until now I like the shawl . Chances are high hat I will keep it. 🙂 Depending on how it looks and feels after washing.
