Weihnachten und was sonst noch passiert ist

Christmas and other stuff that was going on

Ein Foto macht es einfacher.

A picture makes it easier.

Also… für Mama?

Before Christmas – long before – I had started thinking about alpaca. To get a feeling for this kind of yarn I ordered two different yarns – Garnstudio DROPS Alpaca in dark blue and Lang Yarns Baby Alpaca in a dark foresty green. To have a test knit I decided to knit gloves/mittens. Alpaca tends to felt easy but feels incredibly precious and light. Okay, so no gloves for me since I need something more robust to use while riding my bike to work. So… for mom? she already has a pair. For my dear sister!

I didn’t work with a specific pattern but just knit gloves/mittens – standard glove knitting. The fingers areb’t worked as full fingers but half since I wanted Convertibles – gloves and mittens. Just short fingers and a flap to close and make mittens out of it. But still real fingers so they would fit better. In addition the thumbs each have a little hole to stick out the thumb’s tip. So she wouldn’t have to take off the whole thing to use her phone. 🙂

Before I had measured like a thousend things about her hands to make sure they would fit – my mom has the same hand size as I do, my sister has longer fingers and her hands are a bit more slender. But they do fit! She unwrapped them after Christmas and mentioned on the phone that the fit and the thumb thing works.

My second knitted present last year was a Drachenfels by Melanie Berg – a pattern I wanted to do for a long time.

I knit this November/december. After the wip post here I quickly came to the conclusion that my 4,5mm needle wouldn’t work and frogged it again. My 100g of each yarn would never have been enough with this needle size… Well, that didn’t work with the 4mm needle either but the yarn somehow seemed to be not as flexible. I ended up with leaving out at least 3 ridges for each big single coloured section and using 110-120g of each colour.

Went as a Christmas present to my dear bf’s mom who was so happy about it.

Fun fact: The pattern said to block it to 2.10m x 65cm. Well, my Drachenfels can make 3m and is also deeper in the middle. :/

What else? Well, I finished a pair of socks out of WOLLkenschaf 6ply – such a lovely yarn! Kalajoki von Tiina Seppälä was the pattern but just with 44 stitches. I also used sock stop for the first time – liquid latex you put on the soles so you won’t slide through the appartment on  your socks… I think it’s funny somehow but it feels weird wearing the socks. My dear bf wants it for his socks so I will use it there. For mine I will probably not use it again.

Last: I’m currently knitting on a pullover/sweater – Satsuma Stripes. I think it works quite good for me but I think I will put this into another post of it’s own. 🙂
