wip Wednesday – Drachenblut

Diese Woche:

This week:

A Drachenfels-shawl (dragon stone) which I have to admit does not yet look like it’s title. But this will change. The pattern as I said is ‘Drachenfels’ by Melanie Berg. This is also just the start and when you see my third colour the name will make more sense. Maybe I will change it again anyway.

Lana Grossa Cool Wool Merino Superfein in Rosa (Farbe 452),

Lana Grossa Cool Wool Melange in Grau (Farbe 443)

Lana Grossa Cool Wool in Rot (Farbe 437).

My colours:

The light pink on the fotos, a mottled gray and a nice dark red. Unfortunatelly the last is hard to fotograph since it’s always kind of too light.

The yarn:

Lana Grossa Cool Wool Merino Superfein in pink (colourway 452),

Lana Grossa Cool Wool Melange in gray (colourway 443)

Lana Grossa Cool Wool in dark red (colourway 437).

So basically it’s all the same yarn – about 160m(175yd)/50g – but the names on the labels are different. I have no idea why. Maybe they changed the name somehow – from Cool Wool to Merino Superfein – and some labels are still from older skeins now. Or the other way around. It doesn’t matter. It’s the same yarn in three different colours and I have to say it knits up very nice. Additionally I have the same yardage with this yarn as the yarn the pattern calls for. The yarn from the pattern is just more expensive.

At the moment I’m still working on the first part and only knitted one section with the gray yet. There will be a lot more to knit. But I’m surprised how big it already is. I’ve chosen to knit with half a size bigger than the pattern suggested – 4,5mm instead of 4mm – since I usually knit to tight. The stitches still look, well, nice. But since it’s garted stitch it doesn’t show that much anyway.

So why am I knitting a shawl again:

Well, I think this will be a hristmas present. I’m just not sure whether I’ve chosen the right colours. 🙁
