Mein mystery KAL-Tuch ist fertig (FO=finished off) – gestrickt und geblockt.

Nun, was soll ich sagen. Es war spannend, da ich ja nicht wusste, wie es aussehen würde. Und es war interessant zu stricken, auch wenn ich mehr als einmal geflucht und zurückgestrickt habe. Teilweise bis zu 6 Reihen, weil der Fehler irgendwo am Anfang eines Abschnitts war und Fehler bei Lace lassen sich nur schwer im Nachhinein korrigieren. Aber ich hab es fertig bekommen. Ich habe sogar das mit den Perlen versucht und finde auch das total spannend und cool.

Zu den Daten: Das Tuch ist an der längsten Seite ca. 1,80m lang und ca. 40cm tief in der Mitte. Aus Platzgründen konnte ich den Mittelteil nicht noch weiter spannen. Ich brauche dringend diese verdammte Puzzlematte! Da hält das auch besser, aus meiner Decke mit Müllsack rutschen die Stecknadeln zu schnell heraus und ich kann entsprechend nicht so fest spannen wie ich gerne wöllte.

Ich habe vom roten Garn – Wollfaktor Nana (100% Merino, 400m/100g) – ca. 80g verbraucht. Das sind ca. 312m. Vom Türkis – Auraucania Botany Lace (100% Merino, 412m/100g) – stecken da nur etwa 18g drin (74m). Insgesamt also ein Verbrauch von ca. 385m – im Muster eingeplant sind 544m, klappt halt bei mir nicht. 🙁

What should I say. It was exciting since I didn’t know what it would look like. And it was interesting to knit although I cursed and had to knit back more than once. Up to 6 rows sometimes since the mistake happened at the beginning of a clue and with lace mistakes are not that easy to correct later. But I finished it. I even treid knitting with beads and liked it a lot.

The numbers: The shawl measures 1,80m/5 ft 11 at its longest side and is about 40cm/16 inches deep in the middle.

For lack of space I couldn’t block the middle part more. I’m in desperate need of this mat made of puzzle pieces for children! With this blocking will be easier as well since with my blanket and garbage bag the pins always just slip out very easily and I cannot block things as aggressivly as I would like to.

I used about 80g of the red yarn – Wollfaktor Nana (100% Merino, 438yd/100g) – which means about 341yd total. Of the turquoise yarn – Araucania Botany Lace (100% Merino, 450yd/100g) – I used about 18g which means about 81yd. In total I used about 420yd – the pattern called for  595yd, I just cannot meet yarn requirements. 🙁

Ich finde es auch wirklich super. Und ich bin überrascht, wie groß es geworden ist. Als ich mit stricken fertig war, rollerte es sich nämlich total zusammen und ohne Spannen hätte es echt blöd ausgesehen. Als es dann hier lag, gespannt, war ich richtig beeindruckt, wie es am Ende aussah. Hab es dann auch gleich zum Präsentieren mit zum Strickttreff genommen und dort meine Zweifel besprochen. Denn:

Hätte ich gewusst, wie es aussieht, hätte ich es nicht gestrickt.

Einmal, weil ich dann  andere Farben genommen hätte. Der Kontrast ist mir zu stark.

Zweitens, weil ich vom Muster her vielleicht Zweifel gehabt hätte und habe.

Drittens, weil es nicht mein Stil ist. Es ist mir zu unruhig durch die vielen Musterwechsel und den doch großen Farbunterschied.

Was also tun? Eine Freundin vom Stricken meinte, sie hätte über Ravelry schon mal ein ungeliebtes Projekt vergeben können und mir dann auch abends gleich noch den Link geschickt.

Ich habe mich dann gleich mal da umgesehen und einfach mal einen Post verfasst. 3 Minuten später hatte ich gleich jemanden. Wir haben uns dann per PN unterhalten, sie hat mir ruck zuck per Paypal die Versandkosten überwiesen (das war Mittwoch) und ich hab es noch am Donnerstag Abend in die Post gegeben. Kostet übrigens gar nicht viel so ein Tuch in die USA zu verschiffen – läuft als Maxibrief bis 500g. Naja, zumindest kann ich so jemanden glücklich machen, denn ich hätte es auch nur im Schrank liegen gehabt. 🙁

I really think it turned out great. And I’m impressed how big it is. When I had finished knitting it was a curled mess and would have looked really stupid without blocking. When it lay down here, blocked, I was impressed how it looked. Took it for presenting to our knitters’ meeting in the evening then and voiced my doubts there: Because:

If I’d known how it looked before I probably would not have knitted it.

For once because I would have chosen different colours. The contrast here is too much for my taste.

Second since I mayby would have and now indeed have concerns about the pattern itself.

Third because it’s not my style. The pattern is too, well, restless for me. And the big difference between the colours too.

So what to do? A friend from knitting mentioned she had given away an also unloved FO via revelry before. And she sent me the link to the group the same evening.

I looked at the thread the next day and just posted my shawl there, not thinking that I would get a response anywhere soon. But 3 minutes later I had someone interested. That was fast. We talked via PN then and just a short time later she had sent me the shipping costs via Paypal – that was on Wednesday – and I put it in the mail on Thursday after then. Costs for sending a shawl like this to the USA aren’t that high by the way – counts as a “Maxibrief”. At least I can make somebody happy this way. Here I would have just put it in my shawl box and never worn it. 🙁
